I have installed COD4 on my Windows machine. All other games work correctly, but when I try to run COD4 it crashes.

This is a very common problem caused by the system's audio device.

Solution

Go to Start > Control Panel
Double click on the Sound Tool
Click on the Recording tab
Right click and select "View Disabled Devices"
Enable the Stereo Mix
